Training Ship Empire State VII, A Gift from SUNY Maritime Class of 1970

A model of SUNY’s new training ship was inspired by Jack Craft and Greg Gutchigian and was built by members from the Class of 1970. The constructors of the model were Greg, a hobbyist who builds scratch-built ship models, and Bob Gaunt, an avid collector of nautical antiques and repairer of broken ship models. The display cabinet was built by Scott Martin, an incredible woodworker and artist. It was unveiled in a ceremony coordinated by board member, Steve Munoz.

In Greg’s words, “Together at sea on a training ship, or otherwise, makes us shipmates, always prepared to stand up and back up our fellow shipmates in the service of the vessel. This exercise was no different. I, therefore, present this model from the Class of 1970.”
